Young Abu Bakr Abbas from Kenya had no idea that his time in Qatar for the World Cup and his profession as a fan guide would turn him into a social media sensation.
Abbas’s responsibility as a member of the Doha team of guides is restricted to donning a giant hand and pointing in the general direction of the metro station to lead the audience.
Abbas was the center of attention despite the fact that Doha’s streets were crowded with hundreds of other tour guides.
“The clips of the metro guy” have grown in popularity owing to his charming technique of leading fans to the metro station,” said a message from the official account of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) on Twitter.
In recognition of him, Abbas attended the England-America game in the second round of the second group competitions at Al-Bayt Stadium at the invitation of the tournament’s organizing committee. This gave him the chance to visit the stadium and repeat his well-known phrase in front of 60,000 spectators.
